there is no question that there was concern in libya, in benghazi, about a rising militancy extremism in the area. what the state department says is there was a small attack on the u.s. consulate in june, an ied attack and several other attacks on foreign targets and the state department says that they beefed up security at this diplomatic facility, significantly, in the months leading up to the attack -- the september 11 attack. but what they said is what they were preparing for, what they were trying to guard off against they couldn't foresee the kind of massive fire assault that they saw that day. they were beefing up security in accordance with some of the other attacks that pattern of threats out there and they say that nobody could have predicted the amount of fire fight they had that day. obviously we see now those security measures were not enough to save ambassador stevens and those other three americans. >> what about today and looking ahead, in terms of this region. how is the state department, how will they beef up security there? >> well, it is a really good question. bro
